WinWin & IGEMS Joint Solution: 5-axis 3D Simulation Bevel Cutting Technology

For waterjet bevel and special-shaped slope machining of automotive interior parts, aviation aluminum plates and thick metal sheets, frequent workshop problems include tool collision interference, path deviation, material waste and rework caused by unqualified first articles. Conventional processing relies on manual drawing, 2D nesting and repeated on-machine trial cutting. Mismatched cutting head tilt angles or spatial conflicts from fixture layout can easily damage costly high-pressure cutting heads and machine tilting mechanisms, scrapping entire batches of high-value raw materials. This raises spare part costs and delays order delivery schedules. As a long-term strategic partner of IGEMS, Win-Win Waterjet has completed full linkage debugging with IGEMS software for all self-developed 5-axis tilting waterjet machines. With over forty years of waterjet industry programming experience, IGEMS equips its 3D-5X module with professional full 3D simulation functions. Combined with Win-Win high-precision 5-axis mechanical structure, it realizes full-process simulation verification for angled cutting profiles, and builds a complete digital guarantee system for high-precision bevel and slope cutting. The cooperative solution perfectly solves the inherent defect of traditional 2D programming, which cannot predict 3D spatial interference.

After operators open IGEMS and import solid models exported from SolidWorks, Inventor and other CAD software, secondary conversion to 2D drawings is unnecessary. For simple bevel workpieces, the Cut bevel command can be used to set tilt angles; for complex 3D special-shaped parts, full 3D models automatically generate 5-axis tilted tool paths. Every cutting head swing angle, travel path and corner speed change parameter is displayed visually. Relying on joint data calibration by WinWin technical team, once simulation mode is activated, IGEMS replicates the complete machine motion posture at a 1:1 ratio based on the real axis kinematic structure of WinWin 5-axis waterjet equipment. It fully restores the 3D spatial positional relationship among the WinWin tilting cutting head, workpiece sheet, fixture pressure plates and machine beam, demonstrating the whole cutting frame by frame. The motion logic of slight head swing angles and long-distance cross-area feeding matches the physical WinWin waterjet perfectly without parameter mismatch.

Intelligent interference and collision detection represents the core practical value of IGEMS’s simulation function, and it is also the core advantage of WinWin & IGEMS integrated processing system. Throughout the simulation process, IGEMS activates its built-in solid geometry calculation program to continuously compare safe gaps between the 3D outlines of all components. It identifies potential collision risks between the WinWin customized cutting head, workpiece, fixtures and machine structures in advance. If interference zones are detected, immediate on-screen alerts pop up to stop flawed programs from being exported to the waterjet machine. This pre-emptive virtual verification method drastically cuts the number of physical trial runs. It fundamentally avoids machine impact damage and mass sheet scrapping, and reduces labor hours for trial runs as well as consumption of high-pressure abrasives, nozzles and other WinWin supporting consumables. The cost-saving and efficiency-boosting benefits are especially prominent when processing premium materials such as titanium alloy and aerospace stainless steel.

With the 3D visual simulation window of IGEMS, process engineers can directly check the nesting utilization rate of multiple parts, preview the formed shape of bevel cuts in real time, and flexibly adjust a full set of process parameters including WinWin ultra-high pump pressure, feed speed, abrasive flow rate and cutting allowance. Previously, process solutions required 3 to 4 rounds of repeated on-machine testing to finalize; now all adjustment and optimization work can be completed entirely within the virtual environment of IGEMS. Supported by one-stop parameter training provided by WinWin after-sales team, operators only export stable cutting codes and send them to WinWin 5-axis waterjet for physical production after confirming collision-free simulation, qualified cut dimensions and optimal material nesting. This pre-machining virtual system greatly improves the first-pass yield rate of the workshop, extends uninterrupted machine running time and reduces maintenance downtime. Both small and medium-sized sheet metal factories and large aerospace precision manufacturers can steadily improve machining accuracy and output with the mature 3D simulation capacity of IGEMS matched with WinWin standardized 5-axis equipment. The partnership helps global customers obtain dual competitive advantages in product quality and delivery speed when bidding for orders of bevel, slope and complex 5-axis special-shaped cutting.
